This article presents a point of view on the importance of evaluation criteria in increasing scientific performance. The authors presume that one of the causes of modest results in scientific performance is applying inadequate criteria in the evaluation process of academic personnel. The paper shows that Romanian Scientific journals within the field of economics indexed in the ISI database did not manage to improve significantly their performance measured through bibliometric indicators. This is a strong signal that criteria applied for academic evaluations do not encourage competitiveness.
