The evolution of programming languages and of software engineering displays a variety of even more developed abstraction/formal mechanisms. In the context, the article provides reasons for an incresing interest for Mathematics in teaching and reasearch in Computer Science (CS). The paper deals with the following topics: Applications vs. Fundamentals in CS; How CS provides contacts with chapters of Today Mathematics; The mathematical fundamentals of CS: some references of the Romanian studies - Formal languages, grammars and automata; Ordering and algebraic structures, lattices, multilattices; Bibliography (39 entries).
