The medical physicist plays a vital, often leading role in the clinical team and is an invaluable member due to his/her unique qualifications: a scientist with solid background in physics, with emphasis on imaging or therapy radiation physics, complemented by basic anatomy, clinical and radiobiological background. The main focus of this paper is to outline the specific roles of the diagnostic/imaging medical physicist, who, ultimately, has to ensure the safe and effective operation of the imaging equipment throughout the institution.
