Gheorghe Buzdugan, together with Radu Voinea and Stefan Bălan, was one of the personalities with the deepest influence on the Romanian education in Mechanical Engineering from the second half of the twentieth century. His activity was extremely varied, covering teaching, research and academic management. His main scientific activities have been in the field of strength of materials, mechanical vibrations, vibrations measurement, dynamic of the foundation of machines. He has had a very active publishing career as one of the most prolific Romanian authors of textbooks and monographs in mechanical engineering, reprinted in numerous editions. He had a very fertile and useful activity as editor, coordinator and translator of fundamental books in the field of engineering. For generations of Romanian engineers, the name of Gheorghe Buzdugan became synonymous with that of "Strength of Materials".
