This paper represents a discussion concerning principles of modern scientific research, starting from an essay (by D. Rabounski). Since almost a century science is predominatly performed by large research groups dependent of sophisticated equipment. To the genius and hard work of isolated researchers, predominant in the XIX century, contribution of adequate management must be added. Some cases of recognition of the work of previously unknown precursors are discussed as well of two cases of disputes concering attributions of Nobel Prizes.
