Adriano Ostrogovich was born in Lecce (Italy). He graduated in chemistry at the University of Firenze where he obtained also his Ph. D. Science degree (1893), with professor Hugo Schiff. In 1898 was invited by professor C. I. Istrati, Director of the Institute of Chemistry, Bucharest University, to teach organic chemistry. In 1912 obtained the Romanian citizenship. In 1919 he accepted the position of Director of the Institute of Chemistry and professor of organic chemistry at the newly established University Cluj. Adriano Ostrogovich was the main strategist in the affirmation of the School of Chemistry in Cluj and influenced also the development of modern chemistry in Romania.
