Romanian scientific community is facing, for a long time, the phenomenon of brain drain of its researchers going to USA and richer EU countries. The culture of fear and economic hardship were the main reasons during the communism. Nowadays, the motivation for emigration of young, talented, and highly skilled students and researchers resides in opportunities for better education obtained through graduate and post-graduate studies, and possibilities to work in state-of-the-art high-tech domains which open up desired career opportunities. The impact of brain drain and mobility of researchers have on Romania, as well as several potential solutions to these phenomena, are discussed in this paper.
