Radu Vâlceanu, born in 1927, finished his education in chemistry in Polytechnic Institute in Timişoara, in 1954. A briliant chemist and organizer, he had a first rank role in the creation, in Timişoara, of the Research Centre in Chemistry of the Romanian Academy with a very modern research profile. In short time the phosphororganic research line of Timişoara acquired an excellent international visibility. Also, he had an important role in starting studies on quantitative structure-biological activity relations. Radu Vâlceanu disappeared prematurely in a car accident but the modern research lines he introduced continued, even in these years, by his former Phd students and younger collaborators.
