The early history of the modern Romanian physics, which begins with the setting up of the Institute of Physics of the Academy of the Romanian People’s Republic, in September 1, 1949, is described using the information provided by several contemporary scientific publications. A special attention is paid to the Institute of Atomic Physics, but the contribution of universities is also mentioned.
