Professor Emilian Bratu (1904-1991) pioneered the teaching of chemical engineering in Romania. His research activity involved mainly the intensification of heat and mass transfer operations. The research school founded by him at the Bucharest Polytechnic University brought him recognition by the Romanian Academy which elected him as corresponding member in 1963 and as academician in 1974.
