A short history of the West University of Timisoara is presented on the occasion of its seventieth anniversary (1944-2014). A description of the foundation and development of university education and research is also presented, especially for chemistry, physics and mathematics. Targets of educational and research policy at Alma Mater Timisiensis are also discussed.
