abstract ={ The paper identifies and compares two official methodologies recently used in Romania with the aim of ranking
universities or university departments according to their research achievements. An alternative ranking
methodology centered on a scientometric indicator (therational successive g index) is then proposed. This
alternative methodology is applied to the departments of political science and international relations.The results are then compared with the official ranking of study programmes produced in 2011 by the Ministry of Education. },
